She's back...

Although her namesake website is growing increasingly long in the tooth (it's still the same one from her last album on Sony Classical), Mary Fahl hasn't gone away, and from what I read this evening, her latest album should be out about, oh, two months ago from an outfit called V2 Records. Their artists supposedly include Moby and the White Stripes, but there's no sign of Mary Fahl on their site, so where's the credibility? Will Thursday night and Friday be on Tuesday night instead?

Curiously, the new album is a remake, or what's being termed a "re-imagining", of The Dark Side of the Moon. One hopes it will be better than the last October Project CD I bought, which was a depressing experience. Their old, big sound was built around her huge vocal presence, and with only Marina Belica to work with, the result was tinkly and precious. On the other hand, look what I just came across while researching this post... an album of October Project covers, dating from last June. Don't recognize most of the names except Joy Askew, a very interesting singer I saw open for them once at 7th House in Pontiac and who used to sing backup for Joe Jackson. The last track is credited to the band itself, and the clip doesn't sound half bad, so hope springs eternal.

Anyway, Mary Fahl: From the Dark Side of the Moon will be available sooner or later, so I'm looking forward to it.
